MS Yachtbau Y9

The Y9 is latest sailing yacht from Y Yachts, and the first hull is already under construction in Germany with delivery due summer 2021.
The 27.4m carbon fibre yacht is set to become the flagship of the Y Yachts brand and rightly so, with an exterior and interior design team of superlative superyacht pedigree.  The exterior design and naval architecture for this cruiser-racer has been crafted by Bill Tripp, whilst the interior’s cool Scandi style is the work of Norm Architects who’ve completed the project under the experienced guidance of Design Unlimited.
Our role was to ensure that Norm Architects’ interior stylisations were firstly implementable and, secondly, would be practical in use.  Partnering our sailing yacht design expertise with their fresh creative input in this way, has resulted in a yacht with incomparable volume, luxurious yet lightweight features, and a versatile platform that can welcome client customisation.
The interior layout for the Y9 includes an owner’s apartment with a private lounge, dressing room and ensuite.  The crew accommodation has also been given more space than is standard, with carefully considered storage areas and an additional crew lounge.
Oiled oak features throughout the boat and pale grey upholstery gives a softer edge to the minimalistic design.  Sustainable materials have played an important part and the design leads with authenticity – taking from nature, to give back to nature.
The Y9 has a lifting keel that will reduce her draft from 4.4m to 2.8m, and initial Class ratings suggest she could be a real contender on the regatta racecourse with a length that makes her eligible for the St Barths Bucket, Superyacht Cup and Rolex Maxis.
