Karibu – Oyster 885

The owners of this Oyster 885 were looking for a bold uplift to the interior design and exterior colour scheme.  The brief was to create light, vibrant spaces for the family and charter guests to enjoy while cruising aboard.

Design Unlimited were put forward by the owner’s representative, who had worked with Design Unlimited previously on a number of successful refit projects.

The yacht was to be used for cruising with family and offered for charter. They wanted the yacht to provide a light, bright and family-orientated experience for those coming onboard.

The forward berth, which originally had a pull-out sofa bed, was converted into a fixed double to increase guest capacity and comfort.  The bulkheads were refreshed by using coloured and patterned 3M wrap which transformed the overall look. This 27m sailing yacht now has accommodation for eight guests in four cabins.
The saloon tables were also reconfigured and rise-and-fall pedestals were fitted – allowing for a large day bed to be created that’s ideal for cosy movie nights.

The name Karibu means ‘Welcome’ in Swahili, and the brightly coloured cabins each have a distinctive African animal theme in a nod to this.

The fabrics were carefully selected to add texture and depth, and feature various jacquards and embroideries.

On deck, the exterior unit was redesigned to incorporate a drinks bar and better storage and refrigeration were added.

The refit was completed at STP in Palma, Mallorca.

Another vibrant and playful interior that the Design Unlimited Team are proud to have been part of.
