Our Design Process

We take a client centric approach to the design process.
We listen to the needs and requirements of our clients and ensure these are achieve and implemented in the most strategic and considered way.

We begin with a meeting and an in depth discussion about how the client intends to use the boat, architectural, interior and exterior styles they like, and if there are any specific style influences or themes that they would like to see incorporated. We then put together mood boards to give schematic options for review. Then comes the technical design stage. 3D models and photo realistic renderings are prepared, and revised in tandem with material samples from proposed suppliers.

Our technical ability and structural design work is complemented by our own product and fabric library, enabling us to attend to all aspects of interior design and decoration for a project, from defining colour schemes and selecting soft furnishings, to the design and commission of bespoke furniture pieces and art acquisition.

We work in close collaboration with the shipyard and interior outfitter at every stage, overseeing a design’s implementation and the completion of aspects such as overhead coverings, cabin sole and bulkhead linings; solid, veneered and lacquered surfaces; appliances, ironmongery, lights, fixtures and fittings.

Towards the end of a project we assist the yard with supervision, final dressing, and presentation of the yacht.

“DU were challenged to produce a clean, modern interior that is both practical and stylish. Turning this request into reality requires enormous attention to detail and a good working relationship between the naval architect, the builder and the interior designer, especially when the builder is on the opposite side of the world.

DU rose to these challenges successfully and Bliss has met all my expectations. The attention to detail was excellent often moving features by only a few millimetres in pursuit of perfection. The choice of materials, fixtures and colour palette remained true to the style and themes of the yacht such that the final product is consistently beautiful and practical throughout.

Those who inspect Bliss always comment on the stunning interior and those who sail on her, be it cruising around islands or crossing oceans, praise the comfort and practical features of the yacht.

Mark, thank you for turning a concept into a stunningly beautiful yacht. Congratulations DU.”

Since he first sailed on her in 2009, our editor David Glenn has written two detailed stories about Pink Gin. He’s reported on other big hitters, too, blockbusters like Maltese Falcon and classic era headline acts such as Velsheda, but none has ever woowed them like ‘the Ginster’.

Indeed, you could say that Pink Gin has gone viral. She’s a superyacht internet phenomenon. The stories about her are among some of the most read on our site, and definitely the most commented upon, with scores of readers posting about where she is and when.

“The Design Unlimited team worked hard to achieve outstanding results on the refit of ‘Lady A’, they undertook the interior design and interior decoration as well as the exterior design revisions, furnishings and overseeing the work on board.  The team were responsive to our ideas and listened well to what we wanted and they all put in a great deal of effort to ensure that everything went smoothly whilst working well with other trades in the overall refit project. The project was completed with a very tight timescale and to budget”.
